Giving Tuesday is December 2, and every donation made to LIFT Wisconsin will be matched up to $12,500. This means your donation will be doubled for twice the impact to ensure justice is accessible to everyone, regardless of what’s in their wallet. Here’s everything you need to know about how the match works, and more importantly, how it will impact justice in Wisconin.
What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global effort to encourage individuals and businesses to support the charitable organizations and causes they care about most. An annual event, it falls on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, directly following two major shopping days — Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
How can I take advantage of the match?
This match is made possible through the generosity of four donors who, like you, want to close the justice gap in Wisconsin. These four donors (including UW-Madison Clinical Professor Emerita Louise Trubek) made it possible for all donations to LIFT to be matched, up to $12,500, from now until the end of the year. With the match, donate online and your gift will be doubled and deployed as quickly as possible. LIFT is grateful to these donors, especially Ms. Trubek (pictured), for raising the bar on what we can achieve as a community, and grateful to you for your support this giving season.
What do donor dollars do to close the access to justice gap in Wisconsin?
LIFT Wisconsin is building a future where everyone has access to justice. Through the Legal Tune Up Tool, we provide free legal assistance to change child support orders, remove criminal records, remove eviction records, answer debt claims, and reinstate driver’s licenses. Because some individuals have difficulty navigating this tool themselves, we are launching the Legal Navigator program to train and certify competent volunteers to assist individuals in utilizing the Legal Tune Up Tool.
Thanks to the generous supporters who have given in this key moment, we are expanding the Legal Navigators program beyond training partner organizations to training individual community members.
What has LIFT’s impact been so far?
Last year, over 10,000 Wisconsinites utilized the Legal Tune Up Tool to clear common civil legal barriers like clearing eligible eviction and criminal records, answering debt claims, changing a child support order, or restoring their driver’s license. This stops the revolving door of legal issues that can pile up and prevent prosperity.
Our legal system is built for lawyers by lawyers. If an individual can’t afford a lawyer, they are at a significant disadvantage and thus less confident in how they engage with the system – and more likely to distrust the outcomes. By empowering individuals in the justice system to represent themselves, with the help of Legal Navigators, we are strengthening the community one court case at a time.
Join us on December 2 to help us maximize that $12,500 match and fund the next phase of this program so we can help thousands more Wisconsinites get the justice they need and deserve. Mark your calendar for December 2 or get ahead with your giving by donating now.
